Portraits & People - Autumn 2020

£72.00

Duration:

Six weeks

Dates:

Thursdays, 5th November - 10th December

Time:

10am - 1pm

Location:

Online via Zoom. (see details below)

Materials:

You will need graphite or charcoal, and soft pastels or paints (oil or acrylic). You don’t need a huge range, but at the very least you will need red, yellow, blue, black and white. If you have more than this then great. If you have ink then this would be lovely to use, or even a biro or felt tip pen. If you have oil pastels you can also incorporate these if you would like. We’ll be doing a variety of exercises during the course and some will be better suited to one material than another, so it is useful to have a bit of a range. You will also need a surface to work on such as newsprint, cartridge paper, cardboard, canvas or board. If you are investing in materials, then most of the ones I buy for my regular Life Class are from Jackson’s Art.

About:

Since we first started drawing on the walls of caves, artists have sought to depict themselves within their work. It is one of the great joys and challenges of creating art. During this six week course we will explore a series of exercises specifically focused around portraits and the figure, looking at representation and expression, colour and tone. Designed to train you to really look and consider what you see. Working from direct observation, with yourself as the model, you will learn to relax and work freely, building confidence and enjoyment through experimentation and risk taking. As always the critique is individually focused with no “right" or “wrong” but rather a goal of individual development and original expression.

How it works:

I email you the brief and a link to our Zoom meetings a day or so ahead. At the beginning of the session we meet to discuss the brief. You then go off and create your work and upload it to my google drive. We meet again towards the end to critique everyones work.

If for any reason you can’t make the Zoom meetings then you are welcome to call or email me another time, and of course during the two hours if you need feedback on your work while you draw.
